In the eighth episode of Classic Bites - chef Junda Khoo takes host Mitch Orr to Hurtsville where he lived for 22 years - first arriving at 16 after leaving Malaysia. Junda lived just around the corner from Sun Ming - a local institution serving the community since 1993. A favourite still for Junda, bringing him comfort with the flavours of home, it is now run by his friend David Chan who took over Sun Ming from his parents in 2021. Here the guys enjoy dishes of satay beef, sizzling tofu and sticky fried rice before heading back to Junda's restaurant Ho Jiak in the CBD where he creates a dish inspired by dining at Sun Ming.

 

Sun Ming is introduced as an iconic institution in Hurstville, operating since 1993.David took over Sun Ming in 2021, just after the COVID-19 pandemic. He shares his emotional connection to the restaurant, having been a patron since high school.

The menu selections for their meal at Sun Ming are revealed, including Satay beef, sizzling tofu, and sticky fried rice.
